"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not

our darkness

that most frightens us."

In 2000, I started my career in sales and marketing working with financial professionals across the country to create and execute marketing campaigns which generated new clients and grew their businesses. By 2005 I was at the top of my game making more money than I ever dreamed possible.  That same year I decided to work out and eat better as I had experienced more than just financial gains.  Within 3 months I had lost almost 40 pounds.  These results inspired a friend to check out a yoga class (as a gym wasn’t up her alley) and that is how yoga was introduced into my life.  Little did I know then that it had much more to offer than a workout and contorted body poses and that it would give my life a 180 degree whirl!

By the end of 2008, the influence of my yoga practice and study were bringing more clarity to the unhealthy parts of my life.  Being a perfectionist I had developed several “bad” habits that had been band-aids for my stress and anxiety.  I felt like a caterpillar rolling into a cocoon getting ready for a huge transformation.  The first big change was becoming a vegan in September.  Next, on December 31st after almost 20 years of drinking every day, I let it go. By March the cigarettes were gone too. I had one more big hurdle to address - my job.  Although I had loved my job when I first started and was thankful of the lifestyle it afforded me, the simple truth was that I no longer enjoyed it.  Not only had I gone through many changes, but the company had as well. With the economy faltering after the stock market fall in 2008, my logical mind told me to “hang on!”  On the other hand the wisdom of my heart was telling me that life was too short and to let go and explore other opportunities.  The battle between my mind and heart was overwhelming.

My answer came to me on a weekend getaway to a sleepy little beach town….”LET GO…move to the beach…take a break.”  So, I moved to that little beach town and attempted to leave my job.  Benevolently, the company compromised and allowed me to work from home giving me more freedom and flexibility. But after a year, my heart still wasn’t in it and so I let it go.  I took time to explore who I was and what I wanted out of life.  I spent a lot of time at the beach, practiced yoga, became a certified yoga  teacher (RYT 500), taught yoga, meditated (attended several Vipassana retreats), journaled, read inspirational & self-help books, and attended many workshops.  I learned how to relax, manage my stress, and heal old emotional wounds.  After a lifetime of self-abuse, judgment and criticism (as we perfectionists tend to do), I was learning about self-love and acceptance and for the first time was practicing kindness and compassion towards myself.  Whew - not easy!  I still struggle with it sometimes, but the practice is so worth it.  It’s changed my life completely from from the inside out.

Through these experiences I gained more insight and began teaching workshops to share what I was learning.  Hearing my journey, a student asked me to be her life coach which soon lead to others requesting the same.  Then a friend invited me to co-lead a yoga teacher training program.  Organizations asked me to do presentations.  A radio talk show opportunity came along to interview health and wellness professionals. The next thing I knew I was officially in the business of helping others to create more balanced, healthy and happy lives.  My sales and marketing background infused with my yoga journey and personal transformation motivated me to create Inspired Living by Brenda.
